Mulching in agriculture has been carried out for a very long time. It is done to cover the top layer of the soil and provide proper growing conditions for crops. Previously, naturally available agricultural components like straw, compost, hay, and wood chippings were used. The mulching paper was also used. It has not been very effective and is expensive. That’s when Plastic Mulch Films started coming into the picture. Plastic Mulch Films have been giving a more productive outcome.

Thickness of Balaram Mulch Film

According to the type and age of time duration of the crops, a certain amount of thickness for the Mulching Film (in microns) is provided for the crops.

20 - 25 MICRONS

For a thickness of 20-25 microns, the Plastic Mulch Film lasts for a year (annually) for Short Duration Crops. Their growth time is pretty less hence they are most preferably harvested between six to eight months. Generally, for short duration crops- they are sowed between the time period of two major crops that take more time to harvest and are grown in order to maintain the fertility of the top layer of the soil. It is recommended to use this sheet on crops like baby corn, carrot, cotton, okra, bitter gourd and radish.

The significance of growing Medium Duration Crops is to provide farmers with time for cash inflow and purchase the necessary farming equipment he will be needing like tractors, seeders and planters, fertilizers, etc. Farmers will also be able to lay out future plans for his crops.
